Small business owner and community leader Kevin Clark has announced that he will be a candidate for State Senate District 2 seat in the 2008 Democratic Primary.

Clark has been involved in a broad range of community issues, including recycling and anti-littering campaigns, crime prevention, neighborhood revitalization, civil and human rights, and social justice.

"Senator Regina Thomas is to be commended for her extraordinary service," says Clark. "I have been working for over a decade to improve the lives of my neighbors and fellow citizens. This work has prepared me to fight for the citizens of Savannah and Chatham County as a member of the Georgia General Assembly."

Kevin Clark serves on Savannah Mayor Otis Johnson's Crime Task Force, which played a key role in efforts to reform the Savannah Police Department and implement new policies to address high crime rates in the City. Clark also led efforts to appoint a GLBT Liaison to the Department.

Clark serves on the board of Georgia Equality. He is former Vice Chair of the Chatham County Democratic Party and Chair of the Buttimer Dinner, Board Member of the Metropolitan Neighborhood Association, Neighborhood Watch Block Captain, and a frequent contributor to the Savannah Morning News.

He has played an active role in helping to elect numerous progressive Democratic candidates, including Mayor Otis Johnson, At-large Councilwoman Edna Jackson, At-large Councilman Jeff Felser, Councilwoman Mary Osborne, Councilman Van Johnson, State Senator Regina Thomas, and former State Representative Tom Bordeaux.

Kevin and his partner Henry Frost own a bed and breakfast and live in the Thomas Square Historic District of Savannah.

The Democratic Primary is scheduled for July 15th, and the General Election will be held November 4th. No Republicans qualified for this seat.
